BOOM BLOX Debut Trailer

What is it?

If you've ever built something up simply to revel in the sheer thrill of tearing it down afterward, you'll probably get a kick out of this joint venture between Steven Spielberg and EA. But unlike a house-of-cards, row of dominos, or your little sister's Barbie playset, BOOM BLOX will react to your aggression in entertaining ways you've probably never imagined.

This easy-to-play party game may look like a version of "Jenga" for the Wii on the surface, but it's actually a much deeper, object-oriented puzzle adventure.

"My inspiration for this game came while I was playing the Wii for the first time," said Spielberg. "From the initial concept to what the game is today, it's always been built around the innovations the Wii brings to playing games. Boom Blox plays on the enjoyment of building and knocking down blocks, something that can appeal innately to kids and adults of all ages."

Although destruction may be at the core of the game play, the real fun begins when you create your own interactive gems using a host of unique characters, building blox and tools. Every element used in creating a level can be manipulated and tweaked to generate different outcomes. Blox aside, you could just place several of the characters from the game's story mode on a common stage and watch them clobber each other. That's something you'd never see in your sister's Barbie playset.
