We interview Derek Racca, associate producer for Call of Duty: Roads to Victory.
Yahoo! Video Games: Call of Duty: Roads to Victory marks the series' first appearance on a portable game system. Are you borrowing anything from previous COD games, or is everything original for the PSP?
Derek Racca: First and foremost Call of Duty: Roads to Victory is a Call of Duty game. We spent a great deal of effort to make sure that we stayed true to our franchise and all it's classic elements such as intense battles, constant action, intuitive controls and epic moments. That being said, Call of Duty: Roads to Victory is a brand new game built and designed specifically for Sony's PSP. It is a fast-paced game, full of action and intensity that utilizes everything the PSP has to offer.
We did include grenade-cooking in the game since this worked great on Call of Duty 3, providing the player with a little more control over how they throw grenades. Additionally, we also retain the authentic weapons from the series.
YVG: One of the hallmarks of the COD series on the PC and the consoles has been an overwhelming density of action. This would seem like something that'd be challenging to capture on a handheld screen. Did you have to scale back for the portable?
DR: Not at all...we're packing in every bit of intensity we can. We make sure the player is constantly fighting side-by-side with Allied soldiers, while facing a relentless stream of enemies, explosions and gunfire. Additionally, we've got tanks firing their cannons destroying buildings and enemy armor, anti-aircraft guns shooting down enemy planes and a constant barrage of bullets, making Call of Duty: Roads to Victory a loud and intense game.
