What's the best-selling PC game series in existence? No prizes for guessing the answer: it's The Sims, originally conceived by master designer Will Wright, and, as EA announced today, it just sold its hundred millionth copy.
"Reaching 100 million is a great achievement," EA's Rod Humble, head of The Sims Studio, told Yahoo! Games in an interview this week. "A game like this doesn't fit everyone's preconceptions of what a videogame should be, so it says something very good about the games business, and [about] how we're reaching more and more people."
Even when you count console game franchises, The Sims still ranks an impressive third behind Nintendo's one-two punch of Mario and Pokemon, and handily beating such power-packed names as Madden, Zelda and Gran Turismo. All that, and The Sims is still only on its second episode.
