Avatars to Show Modern Warfare 2 Pride

Infinity Ward comments on Call of Duty: MW2 Avatar gear.

We'd rate this news story somewhere between "scoop-tacular" and "scoop-a-licious" as far as hard-hitting, number one priority stuff. Seriously. Why would we lie?

As part of the whole "New Xbox Experience" everyone and their mothers (if their mothers have Xbox Live) are getting down with the newfangled Avatar clothing, and when a big game comes along so do the waves of dress-up items for your virtual self. Yes, we've seen people rocking the Halo helmets and Dead Space headgear, but what of the Call of Duty representation? Will we see any avatar goodness from Infinity Ward's highly anticipated shooter?

That answer, dear friends, is yes.

In a recent Twitter update IW's Robert Bowling – community manager and "guy who gets stuff thrown at him in trailers" – commented on a user question about avatar implementation. Bowling responded to the question of Avatar rewards and other customization options, stating "Not sure we'll be doing any Avatar rewards, but we are making avatar items. With some free ones hopefully."

On a personal note, I roll my eyes at Avatar customization – paying for it, at least – but I'll also be first in line to buy hundreds of dollars worth of guns, gear, and Ghost-themed balaclava for my virtual self. No free "everyone's got it" IW t-shirt for this guy.
