Sony Scoops Ghostbusters

PlayStation PAL versions coming June, X360 later in the year.

Sony has swooped to steal the official Ghostbusters game from Atari at the last minute, according to an announcement made this morning. The platform holder negotiated the deal at the 11th hour to ensure PAL PlayStation 3 and PS2 versions of the game will be released on 19 June to coincide with the Blu-ray launch of the movie, which hits in the UK four days earlier on 15 June. The PSP game will be released in the autumn.

Atari will still publish the other versions of the game, but this will now come 'later in the year' according to trade mag MCV.

"We can't think of a better way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this beloved franchise," said Mark Caplan, Vice President of Licensing-Interactive for Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc, commenting on videogame / Blu-ray tie-in.

Ghostbusters was originally going to be published by Vivendi but the game moved over to Atari after it was dropped during the Activision-Blizzard merger last year.
