Rock Band 2 Hitting Europe Soon

EA and Harmonix to give Euro-rockers PS3, PS2 and Wii access to Rock Band 2.

News from EA today states that PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Wii gamers in Europe will finally be able get their hands on Rock Band 2 in the near future. Released on Xbox 360 in Europe back in November of 2008, Sony console owners will be able to start rocking out on March 27, closely followed by Wii owners on April 24.

A few different product lines will be opened ranging from the standalone game disc to the full-blown all-inclusive instrument edition. Here's the scoop:

Rock Band 2 software will retail for £49.99 on the PLAYSTATION 3, £29.99 for the PlayStation 2 and £39.99 for the Wii. Rock Band 2 is also currently available on the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system for £49.99.

Rock Band instrument peripherals are also now available at new price points:

  • Stand alone guitars will retail at £39.99

  • Stand alone drums will retail for £49.99

  • An "Instrument Edition" including drums, guitar and microphone will retail for £89.99

In addition to the new price points, consumers will now also be able to purchase the Rock Band Instrument Edition and Rock Band software together for £119.99 for the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 and for £109.99 for the PlayStation 2 and Wii.

  • Apparently, to date, over 36 million tracks have been downloaded via the Rock Band store, from a catalogue of over 500 songs.

Bryn says: The Xbox 360 may have had a four month lead with Rock Band 2 in Europe, but that's all about to change. Of course, here in the States, there was a similar staggered release; Xbox 360 was first out of the gate, and then the other platforms hit later.

But what about those poor souls in Australia? Angry threads like this one see people contemplating importing the UK PAL release of the game, paying a large premium as they go...
