NHL 09 Ratings

With the kickoff of the NHL preseason less than six weeks away, EA's begun to finalize details about the upcoming NHL '09, the successor to IGN's 2007 Sports Game of the Year.

Naturally, one of the items that comes up for discussion are rosters and ratings. Is Crosby better than Ovechkin? Is Malkin better than Crosby? Is Datsyuk better than all three? The debate goes on for hours, but EA's attempted to settle them by providing us with the rosters for this year's game.

One thing these ratings are lacking is an overall rating -- at this stage of the game, EA's still tweaking the game and its AI, which affects the overall ratings to the point where they're not ready to be confirmed. We've provided over a dozen ratings, however, for each player. As a quick key, those ratings for skaters are:

OAWR: Offensive Awareness

DEK: Deking

CHK: Checking

AGL: Agility

PAS: Passing

DIS: Discipline

TGH: Toughness

ACC: Acceleration

SS_ACC: Slap Shot Accuracy

SS_POW: Slap Shot Power

END: Endurance

WR_ACC: Wrist Shot Accuracy

WR_POW: Wrist Shot Power

PUCK: Puck Control

DAWR: Defensive Awareness

POIS: Poise

SHTBLK: Shot Blocking

DEFL: Deflections

SPD: Speed

FACEOF: Faceoffs

AGG: Aggression

BAL: Balance

DUR: Durability

And for goalies, they are:

BRK: Breakaways

POK: Pokecheck

END: Endurance

VIS: Vision

SPD: Speed

AGL: Agility

POS: Positioning

RBND: Rebound Control

RECOV: Recovery

POIS: Poise

DUR: Durability

PAS: Passing
