Mass Effect Goes Gold

EA's acclaimed space opera RPG headed to a PC near you soon.

Judging by the way that EA and BioWare have ramped up the hype machine regarding Mass Effect for the PC recently, you knew that it had to be leading up to something. And today, the companies announced that the PC version of the acclaimed sci-fi role-playing game, which debuted on the Xbox 360 more than six months ago, has gone gold, which means that the code is finished and off to the duplication plant.

When it will arrive at a store near you depends on where you live. North American gamers will get the game on May 28. European gamers will have to wait a bit longer, as it won't arrive on their continent until June 6.

You can check out a wealth of recent preview coverage while you're waiting. We recently interviewed BioWare general manager and cofounder Ray Muzyka, wrote a hands-on preview of the game, and posted a wealth of direct feed gameplay footage.
