Wii Crosses Six Million in Japan

Wii Fit tops two million.

The Wii has reached another milestone in its home territory: the six million sold mark. The system managed to reached the landmark, widely known as the point between five million and seven million, less than 1.5 years following its release.

This sales figure comes our way from Enterbrain, which provides sales tracking information in its Weekly Famitsu publication. According to the firm, the Wii has managed to reach the six million mark faster than any console in its tracking history, which goes back to 1996.

In contrast, the Wii's closest console competitor, the PlayStation 3, has sold 2.06 million units as of the 4th. The PS3 was released to Japan prior to the Wii by about a month.

Enterbrain also shared today that Wii Fit has, as of the 13th, crossed the two million mark, making it the third Wii title to do so. The other two titles are Wii Sports and Wii Play.

Currently, the Wii has six titles which have sold over a million units in Japan alone, the latest being Mario Kart Wii.
