Happy Monday: Prototype has been delayed until 2009. Over on GameStop.com, the third-person action title's release date has been bumped from a rosy fall release to April Fools Day 2009.
Could it be that the retail giant is just trying to get a jump on next year's fooling? Sadly, Sierra says no, although the company isn't ready to assign it the April 1st date.
"Sierra Entertainment and Radical Entertainment have made the decision to shift Prototype to launch in 2009," a company spokesperson said. "Since its announcement, Prototype has been regarded by many as groundbreaking and taking the open-world genre in new directions, and in the simplest explanation possible, we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create."
Prototype casts you as Alex Mercer, a man without a memory but with some awesome abilities. A shapeshifter, Mercer will need to consume folks to find the information and superpowers he needs to get to the bottom of his amnesia and what is tearing New York apart.
