Skate Shreds Wii and DS

The EA skateboarding series will hit the Nintendo console and handheld.

IGN has learned that Electronic Arts will be producing versions of Skate, its Tony Hawk-competing skateboarding title, for both the Nintendo DS and Wii systems. The title will be known as Skate It, implying that these versions will be a spin-off and not a port of last year's game. No other details on the two versions have been revealed.

Skate, produced by development studio Black Box, was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late 2007 to critical acclaim. The game brought skateboarding videogame back to its basics with its unique skill-based, dual analog-stick control. Since the Wii and DS lack similar control functions as the PS3 and 360, we can expect controls that are tailored for the Nintendo system's strengths: accelerometer motion for the Wii and touch-screen for the DS.

Watch for more on Skate It for Wii and Nintendo DS in the coming months.
