DS and Wii Own February

NPD: Wii and DS the best-selling systems last month.

We're fresh out of ways to write that Nintendo's two platforms continue to dominate NPD's sales charts, so we'll just get straight to it. In February, DS and Wii were (yet again) the number one and two best-selling systems respectively, according to recent videogame sales date released by the NPD Group. Except for one month in which Xbox 360 sales spiked after the release of Halo 3, Wii and DS have held these two top spots for more than a year running.

DS sold through more than 587,000 units. Wii another 432,000 consoles. Amazingly, PlayStation 2 was the third best-selling system with 351,000 units sold. PlayStation 3 followed with 280,000 consoles purchased. Xbox 360 pulled in another 254,000 gamers and some 243,000 people picked up a PSP in February.

The top 10 best selling videogames for February, as follows:

  • 1. Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360; 296,000)

  • 2. Devil May Cry (Xbox 360; 295,000)

  • 3. Wii Play (Wii, 289,000)

  • 4. Devil May Cry (PS3; 233,000)

  • 5. Guitar Hero III (Wii, 222,000)

  • 6. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics (DS, 205,000)

  • 7. Los Odyssey (Xbox 360; 203,000)

  • 8. Turok (Xbox 360; 197,000)

  • 9. Guitar Hero III (PS3, 183,000)

  • 10. Rock Band (Xbox 360; 161,000)

Interestingly, although Microsoft sold fewer consoles than its competition, gamers purchased more games on Xbox 360 than any other console in February. Four Xbox 360 games made the top 10 best selling videogames list for the month; two for Wii, two for PS3; and one for DS.
