Epic Grabs Developer People Can Fly

Epic purchases majority stake in developers that helped out on Gears PC.

Epic Games, creators of the near-ubiquitous Unreal Engine, today announced the purchase of a majority interest in Polish developer People Can Fly.

A 50-person development house, People Can Fly is probably best known for Painkiller and its subsequent sequel Painkiller Hell Wars, both over-the-top horror-themed first-person shooters for PC and Xbox. More recently, PCF has collaborated with Epic on the release of the PC version of Gears of War, Epic's core centerpiece and prime example of the majestic capabilities of Unreal Engine 3. Epic was so impressed with PCF's work on Gears PC that the company decided to secure the development house for future projects.

President of Epic Games Dr. Michael Capps was quoted, "The multiplayer levels they created for Gears PC look as good or better than the original. How could we not jump at the opportunity to work together on a long-term basis?"
