Surprise! Madden Sells like Mad

It's like printing money or turning plastic DVDs into solid gold. Every year Electronic Arts releases a new Madden NFL game, and every year its sales are through the roof. This year's edition, Madden NFL 07, has become the fastest-selling Madden title yet, with more than 2 million units purchased in just one week.

Last year's offering sold 1.8 million copies in its first week out, which was also a new record for the series at the time.

According to an article posted on Reuters, analysts are estimating that Madden NFL 07 sales could make up as much as seven percent of EA's annual revenue. The news group also says that the Madden series is the biggest sports videogame franchise in the United States -- but chances are you already knew that.
