Frosty Terror on the Big Screen

Another videogame gets movie option.

What is it about survival horror games that makes movie makers go ga-ga? First it was Resident Evil, then Resident Evil 2. Soon Silent Hill will be out, and now we have word that a film based on Ubisoft's Cold Fear may be next. Variety is reporting that Avatar Films and Sekretagent Productions have optioned the movie rights for the game.

Cold Fear was developed by Darkworks, the same people behind Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. If you're unfamiliar with the title, don't feel bad; it wasn't exactly a smash hit. The game puts you in the bright red-orange vest of a coast guard officer who must creep his way through a drifting whaling ship that's infested with a collection of scary monsters.

So far no director is attached to the film. While the premise sounds dangerously close to the Jamie Lee Curtis film Virus, we're just glad that for now Uwe Boll is nowhere to be seen.
