World in Conflict Presses Big Red Button

The Massive revisionist Cold-War RTS launches itself at retail stores.

World in Conflict, a new real-time strategy PC game based on a fictional Cold-War doomsday scenario, is now available at retailers, publisher Sierra announced Wednesday.

Created by Cold War expert Larry Bond and developed by Massive Entertainment, World in Conflict begins in 1989 as the Soviets, fearing certain collapse, advance into Europe. NATO responds in force only to be met on a second front - a full-fledged invasion of the American homeland.

It would be at this point that we would expect the Wolverines to step in and take care of business, but that's a different scenario.

In World in Conflict, players take on the role of field commander in a campaign to retake America's cities and suburbs. In addition to a single-player campaign mode, the game features a team-oriented multiplayer mode.

An Xbox 360 version of World in Conflict is also in the works, with a Nov. 13 release date.
