N is for Ninja

The Flash game is getting the handheld treatment.

Today Atari announced it will publish an enhanced version of the popular Flash ninja game, N, on the Nintendo DS and PSP. Titled N+, the game is a 2D platformer that puts players in the role of a ninja being hunted down by robots gone haywire. The original N was created by Metanet Software and can be downloaded for free from its official Site. Atari's version is being handled by SilverBirch Studios, developers of mobile games such as Superman Returns.

Atari is enhancing the N experience with downloadable content, multiplayer modes (with game sharing), and a level editor. Leader boards are planned to determine who is the greatest ninja of all. The original's fluid animation and pick-up-and-play mechanics will be retained in the translation. N received the Audience Choice Award at the 2005 Independent Games Festival.

The new multiplayer modes will include both cooperative and competitive games. The DS version will use the stylus for its level editor, and players will be able to share their creations with other ninja.
