With the arrival of the Xbox 360, Microsoft also launched its gamerscore system, where gamers had the ability to unlock achievements unique to a title as they progress through their library of games. At its inception, it seemed like an extra, frivolous device for the system, but it soon proved to be something that gamers would embrace. Acting as nothing more than support for a gamer's bragging rights, the Xbox 360's achievement system has proved itself a force to be reckoned with. As the platform's library expands, many gamers find themselves buying a title for this console over another as this is the only system that offers achievement points; others buy games only to increase their gamerscore and with the start of Microsoft's "Experience Challenge," a palpable incentive has been added to the program. It would seem that Microsoft was onto something when it conceived its gamerscore system.

What's your opinion on the matter? Do you think that the achievement points amount to nothing, or are you glad that there's some proof to back up your claims of gaming skill? Are you glad that the Experience Challenge was initiated, or do you think it's an appeal to nonsense? Are you one of the guilty gamers who plays a game just to get your gamerscore up?
