Pirates! Board PSP

Sid Meier's swashbuckling simulation is headed to Sony's handheld.

Today 2K and developer Firaxis Games announced Sid Meier's Pirates! will be pillaging the PSP early next year.

Originally released in 1987 with a remake released in 2004, Pirates! is a strategy/adventure game in which players take the role of a Pirate Captain in the 17th century Caribbean -- looting fortunes and seizing fame in an attempt to regain their rightful place as one of the most revered and feared pirates in the seven seas. The ocean is waiting to be explored, and aspiring pirates will duel in land and sea battles in a detailed 3D world. New features for the PSP version include wireless Ad-Hoc multiplayer for up to four players, widescreen graphics, new treasure hunts, and more.

"We love the new possibilities from handheld systems like the PSP," added Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. "Pirates! for the PSP system allows players to shape the heroic life of a pirate while embracing the pirate's way of life -- always on the go!"

Sid Meier's Pirates! for the PSP is expected to be in stores in January 2007.
