E3 2006: THQ Catches Stuntman

The company picks up the racing franchise and developer Paradigm.

A stuntman's work involves not only great physical stamina, but the ability to throw oneself from one place to another -- often leaping gracefully through open air (while Roland Emmerich rolls the camera). The Stuntman game series has made just such a jump, as THQ announced today it has purchased the franchise from Atari and nabbed current Stuntman developers Paradigm Entertainment at the same time.

Paradigm, known for Pilot Wings 64, among other titles, is currently working on a new Stuntman title for next-generation systems, offering a fresh serving of the franchise's action-racing mix. The company took the Stuntman reigns from series creator Reflections.

"The concept of pulling off the incredible driving feats of Hollywood stuntmen is a natural fit for action and racing game fans alike," said Kelly Flock at THQ. "Stuntman is a great complement to our growing stable of original content targeting the core gamer on next-generation systems."

THQ expects to finalize its acquisition of Paradigm in the coming weeks.
