Guitaroo Man Set for PSP

Koei revives its early PS2 music title for the portable scene.

A forgotten PS2 classic will be making a return on the PlayStation Portable. According Sony's Japanese retail site, Koei will be bringing Gitaroo-Man Live! to the Japanese PSP, with a release planned for 5/25/2006.

Gitaroo-Man is a rhythm/dance game that hit the Japanese PlayStation 2 shortly after launch back in 2000. The game put players in the role of U1, a teenager who turns into Gitaroo-Man to fight off super villains. Simple gameplay and a unique art style put "niche" all over this one, but Koei was still good enough to give it a stateside release in 2002.

The PSP version places players in control of U1 once again, with music producer COIL and visual producer 326 reprising their roles. The game promises to be more balanced than the PS2 version and will also offer ad-hoc competitive play as well as a cooperative "duet" mode.

Further details will have to wait until Koei officially announces the title. In the meanwhile, check out our review of the PS2 original.
