Dofus Wrap Report

Ankama Studio's colorful amalgam of a massively multiplayer fantasy role-playing game and an interactive cartoon

Audience Response Anthony "Tot" Roux: Dofus has been very well received by the French and French-speaking media. The recurrent topics about it have been the originality of the colorful, cartoonish graphics, the specific tactical gameplay, and the offbeat humor of the text. On these subjects, we agree with the media, so I think we have developed a game that fits with our original objectives.

A rumour said that if the players spoke too close to water places, lakes or seaside, it made the fishes flee. This spread all over the Dofus world, and for a long time, everybody muted around water places.
On the international scene, media are harder to reach; thus we received less feedback, but generally speaking, it has been quite positive.

Regarding gamers, even if the feedback is positive, a negative point has come out several times. Indeed, some of them have seen the game as a basic 2D flash game only. The point that Dofus is powered with Flash has made some gamers say they would never play or subscribe. However, gamers who tried it a bit more realize Dofus is much more than a "simple flash game" and that it offers all the features of an MMORPG and maybe more...

Looking Ahead Anthony "Tot" Roux: Our permanent concern is to bring the customers new features and quests, and to continue improving the game. We have a lot of ideas and ongoing projects to make the game evolve. We also want to make more in-game events both on the French and international servers.

In the medium term, we plan to launch a new game, Dofus Arena, in which the players will be able to fight with the different characters and in similar conditions, but you will know more about this in few weeks...

Personal Thoughts Anthony "Tot" Roux: I like the personal thoughts part. It is a paragraph where you can put everything you wanted to say but that did not fit into any other part! :)

In order to bring something fun and role-playing into the game, we allowed players to marry with their soul mate. However, we did not plan and intend to make... divorces! At first, divorce was forbidden in Dofus (quite strict rule, I know!), but seeing that more and more members wanted it, we have been forced to offer the possibility. Marriage, however, remains a very important commitment, and members cannot divorce easily. Indeed, only a GM can pronounce a divorce, and the decision to do it or not is at his or her sole discretion!

Among the several professions available, the players can choose to become a fisherman. A rumour said that if the players spoke too close to water places, lakes or seaside, it made the fishes flee. This spread all over the Dofus world, and for a long time, everybody muted around water places. Even crazier, some fishermen (or women) attacked the adventurers that dared to speak near their fishing area!!

A last memorable thing I'd like to talk about was the call of a fine chocolate maker willing to make BowMeow-shaped chocolates (kind of small cat the adventurers can equip in order to boost their characteristics).
