Rampage Returns

Midway resurrects a monsterous classic.

Can there be bliss as sweet as a ridiculously huge Coke, the thick smell of popcorn, and climbing and bashing buildings as a gigantic ape or reptile? We didn't think so. Nor does Midway, evidently, as the company announced Thursday it is publishing Rampage: Total Destruction, an update on the arcade classic, for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube.

The new Rampage will offer the same core mechanic (i.e., climbing buildings, roaring, and bashing the heck out of anything) with some new twists to keep things fresh. For one, along with your old monster pals George, Lizzie, and Ralph, you'll find a number of new giants to play. Use power-ups to improve your smashing as you travel the world in either solo or two-player mode. Midway promises that virtually everything can be "damaged, broken, and utterly destroyed."

Rampage: Total Destruction is scheduled for spring 2006. As soon as new details break through, we'll come stomping back with more.
