Pirates Sequel Spawns Games

Disney readies a second Pirates of the Caribbean assault.

Buena Vista Games, Disney's video game division, announced today it will produce games based on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the sequel to the 2003 hit film. The games are planned for Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and next-generation consoles.

The Pirates games will have players taking the roles of Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann, who must cross land and sea in search of the legendary Dead Man's Chest. The games will recreate moments in the film, of course, but will also offer new events and locations.

U.K. developer Eurocom will develop the console titles, while the handheld versions are in development at Amaze Entertainment and Griptonite Games.

The company expects the handheld games to hit simultaneously with the film, currently planned for summer 2006. We'll be back with more as details come in.
