Tekken 5 Confirmed For PS2

In case you didn't already know.

While we're sure Namco may have mentioned something about it before (or maybe we just assumed as much), Tekken 5 will indeed see release on the PlayStation 2. The latest issue of Japan's Famitsu magazine has first word on the PS2 version of the game.

The PS2 version of Tekken 5 looks exactly like the arcade version, judging by the screenshots in the magazine; then again, this it to be expected, since the arcade version ran on slightly improved PS2 hardware.

In addition to all the characters from the arcade version, the PS2 version will add a few new modes of play, including a versus mode and a survival mode. Additionally, Namco is reportedly working on a new scrolling action-style mode of play that will surpass Tekken 3's "Tekken Force Mode."

One of the cool things from the arcade version was minimal network compatibility whereby players could use their cell phones to customize characters with items. The PS2 version will have a mode that mimics this. Players will be able to collect new items and costumes by making use of "Fight Money."

Tekken 5 is 60% done for the PS2 and should see Japanese release in Spring of 2005. The game is just arriving to arcades in Japan, so prior to the PS2 version's release, you may want to check out the arcade version to see what's in store.
