Spider-Man's the Ultimate!

Activision confirms new Spider-Man game and more for 2005.

At Activision's "Activate" event yesterday in Europe, the Santa Monica-based publisher announced a flurry of titles due in 2005 including a new Spider-Man game based on Marvel's Ultimate line of comics.

While it didn't reveal the developer, Activsion's Ultimate Spider-Man is most likely to be produced by Treyarch (which has worked on the last two Spider-Man titles anyway). It's also sure to be as stylized as Spider-Man is in that series and will include the villains and storylines from it as well.

Since Activision is bent on pounding gamers with its franchises each and every year, expect Ultimate Spider-Man to be followed by some other Spider-Man title in 2006 (that's just our guess) and Spider-Man 3 (confirmed) to appear in 2007 at the same as the third and final Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movie.

What else was confirmed at Activision Activate? Our European correspondent reports that the next Tony Hawk (after THUG 2), QUAKE 4, Call of Duty 2, Iron Man, the next True Crime, and Neversoft's new (and yet to be named) actioner will all arrive in 2005.

We'll have more as soon as we stop drinking so much booze.
