Atari Ships 2.5 Million Drivers

Reflections much-loved game hits retailers worldwide in a big way.

Atari Games announced today it shipped 2.5 million copies of Reflections' Driver 3 to retail stores worldwide. If that were just to North America, those would be impressive numbers indeed, but considering the game's massive following in Europe, it's no Matrix. All jokes aside, they're still noteworthy numbers.

The single-player action-racing Driver 3 shipped first to North America (Monday, June 21), followed by shipments in Europe and Australia. The shipping numbers, of course, don't mean the game has sold through to 2.5 million customers, it translates instead to retail chains' anticipation of the game's possible sales. It means a total of 2.5 million units went to retail stores.

The high quantity of shipped units and the game's previous high sales numbers nonetheless have caused retail chains to predict Driver 3 will be a top seller this June. A PC version of the game is due to ship this September.
