Developer Silicon Knights' Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, which debuted last year for Nintendo's GameCube console, details the collective story of 12 characters as they do battle with ancient beings over a span of some 2,000 years. It's dark. It's geared toward adult gamers. It's intelligent. And it's cool. The game received high marks by critics across the board, but it hasn't sold nearly as well as it should have.
Why do you care? Simply, the game owns you and as soon as you realize this fact we'll all be better off. To help pound this point in, IGNcube has kicked off the "Buy Eternal Darkness in 2003: Better Late than Never Campaign." It's catchy, huh? Say it three times and then
Last week IGNcube kicked off the campaign with a plea for readers to buy Eternal Darkness for a friend. This week we explore why it is also important that readers buy the game for various family members -- at least one, and possibly as many as several hundred if their wallet affords them this wonderful option. To illustrate our point, we've written a poem:
Your mom, your dad, they may not say it
But give them Eternal Darkness and they will play it
For you see, family members love good games, too
They may not say this, but it's true
Your dad could say, "This blood, these themes -- I am disgusted."
But know this -- he's lying, and can't be trusted
Your mom might shout, "Zombies and magic are tools of the devil."
But she's a Russian spy and not on the level.
Bring them the Darkness and they will thank you for it
It won't be very long before they both adore it
