Neverwinter Wins an AIAS Award

Plus news on the upcoming expansions.

BioWare Corp. is pleased to announce that Neverwinter Nights was named the Computer Role-Playing Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) on February 28 at the Sixth Annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. The AIAS achievement award event recognizes outstanding achievement in interactive content and in the interactive community. This is the fourth time in the past five years that BioWare's products have received honors at the AIAS awards: three times for PC Role-Playing Game of the Year (Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights), and once for Character or Story Development (Baldur's Gate II).

BioWare will be expanding upon the Neverwinter Nights universe with two upcoming expansion packs: Shadows of Undrentide, set for a Spring 2003 release; and "XP2," the currently unnamed second expansion pack, scheduled for release later in 2003. Shadows of Undrentide is being co-developed by BioWare Corp. and FloodGate Entertainment, a developer comprised of several former Looking Glass Studios employees. It will feature a new 20+ hour single-player campaign, five brand new prestige classes, 3 all-new tilesets, as well as scores of new monsters, spells, feats, and skills. "XP2" is being developed solely by BioWare, and will include many new features, as well as an epic-level story-driven campaign catering to higher level characters.

Also under development at BioWare is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the first role-playing game in the Star Wars universe, to be published by LucasArts on both Microsoft Xbox and PC in June and Summer 2003, respectively. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic allows players to pursue the light or dark side of the Force, with many of her decisions having a direct impact on the storyline, as well as the entire universe.
