Reflections Drives to the Movies

Infogrames options film and TV rights for Driver to Constanin Film. Details at 11.

Infogrames, which occasionally calls itself Atari, officially announced today a deal that gives Constantin Film the film and TV rights to the popular Driver franchise.

The movie based on the Driver series is presently slated to start production in 2003. James DeMonaco, Todd Harthan and James Roday (The Negotiator) are working on the screenplay, and Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) will direct.

"We are thrilled to have Driver make the jump to the big screen," said Martin Edmondson, managing director and creative director of Reflections Interactive. "The audience for Driver has grown steadily over the last three years because the game combines exhilarating action with a compelling storyline. That makes for hit games and should make for a terrific movie."

"This is a great opportunity to develop the extremely cool game character of Tanner into a memorable movie figure," said Jeremy Bolt, the movie's producer. "With Tanner and Tobias Jones, we can create two very believable and iconic action movie heroes."

One of the leading independent production and distribution films in Germany, Constantin Film has slated its subsidiary Impact Pictures to produce it. Reflections' Driver and Driver 2 were major hits on PlayStation. Driver 3 is slated to appear on PS2, GameCube, Xbox and PC. We'll have more in the future.
