Spyro: Enter the GameCube

The purple dragon heads to Nintendo's next-gen platform.

Today Vivendi Universal announced that it will bring the next in the line of the hit Spyro the Dragon series to GameCube in addition to the already scheduled PlayStation 2 version. Titled Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, the sequel to Spyro: Year of the Dragon, it is a completely new adventure featuring all-new moves, next-generation graphics, and a new storyline.

Commenting on the decision to bring Enter the Dragonfly to GameCube, Universal's president Jim Wilson said, "The tremendous success of Spyro: Season of Ice on the Game Boy Advance revealed the enthusiasm of Nintendo gamers for the Spyro gameplay experience. UI has combined the best aspects of previous games with new concepts to deliver a next-gen Spyro game to this loyal fan base."

Developed by the California-based Equinoxe Digital Entertainment, the new Spryo the Dragon will be home to a host of new moves including electric, ice, and bubble breath along with new skills, vehicles, and friends. In a world where the evil Ripto returns with a plan to steal the dragonflies of Dragon Realms, it's up to Spyro to keep the peace and restore order to the world.

Look for more info, first screens, and more in the coming months. Enter the Dragonfly is scheduled for a "near simultaneous" release with the PlayStation 2 version in Q4 2002.
