New Star Ocean 3 Details?

The rumor mill is currently coughing up the first details on Star Ocean 3, the PlayStation 2 RPG announced way back when with the system's debut. Developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix, SO3 is due to update the series with realtime 3D graphics and much more besides. Of course, it will be more interesting to see what developments appear in the gameplay department, given the remarkable degree of innovation in tri-Ace's last project, Valkyrie Profile.

As is thankfully becoming the norm in major RPGs, encounters will be visible and avoidable on the 3D field map. The main party will consist of only three characters at any given time. Two main characters are rumored so far -- a boy named Fate and a girl named Sophia -- and they world they adventure in apparently consists of both futuristic worlds and traditional fantasy themes (consistent with earlier Star Ocean games).

We'll see if we can bring you confirmation of these rumors in the near future. In the meantime, it's at least good to know that the gears are still turning at tri-Ace.
