It might not have made it into very many living rooms, but Nintendo's musical playground Wii Music may have found a new home in the classroom.
In a press release, the company announced plans to install Wii consoles and Wii Music software into select schools around the country to give teachers a "unique tool for creativity and improvisation." 51 cities will be part of the initial rollout.
While the game received criticism for, well, not being much of a game, teachers have responded well to its user-friendly, free-form approach to music making.
"I love how many music standards can be covered in such a short time," said elementary school music teacher Helen A. Krofchick. "Students also have to use language skills, spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination...any system that is educational and can add a love of music to children's lives should be in every classroom."
Wii Music hopes to emulate the educational crossover success of other video games, most notably Konami's Dance Dance Revolution, which has been integrated into hundreds of middle-school P.E. programs since 2006.
