Actor Robert Iler literally grew up on The Sopranos TV show. He's also one of a growing number of young actors who grew up playing games. His two worlds collided this past year with THQ's The Sopranos: Road to Respect PlayStation 2 game. Before filming the final episodes of the beloved show, Iller took some time to talk about his first foray into starring in a videogame.
"It was really fun," said Iller. "I've been playing videogames since I can remember...since I was like 5 years old. To be part of a videogames...it was something I never knew would make me so happy. It was really cool to be able to do this."
Seeing himself in a videogame was an interesting experience for the young actor.
"It's kind of funny and weird," said Iler. "I think it was a better experience for me to see how they made Tony Sirico look. I thought that was awesome."
Iller's A.J. Soprano has the biggest role in the game, when it comes to familiar characters from the show. Although James Gandolfini, Tony Sirico, Steve Van Zandt, Vincent Pastore, and Joseph Gannascoli all provided voice acting and likenesses for the game, it's Iler that interacts most with the player's character, Joey LaRocca, played by Christian Maelen.
"In the past few seasons they kind of had me getting into throwing parties and almost promoting clubs (on the show), so my character meets Joey LaRocca and I'm getting a party together where I'm making some money and something at the party goes wrong, so he kind of helps me get through it," said Iler.
