Rock Band designer reveals rejected game names

Top seller was nearly called "Big Band Blowout"

Selling over 10 million copies in its first 16 months, the Rock Band series is a bona fide hit. But would it have become such a household name if it had been called "Big Band Blowout"?

That's just one of the names developer Harmonix considered while making the game, designer Dan Teasdale revealed during a talk last week. Others included "Power Chords", "Metal Lords", "I Want To Be A Rockstar!", and "Rock Band: World Tour," gaming blog Kotaku revealed.

The names were all rejected for violating Rock Band's main design principle: they didn't make it feel like "an authentic band experience". All except the last one, that is, which Harmonix trimmed after deciding the full name would "never sell". Someone probably ought to tell Harmonix's rival Activision, which released the fourth Guitar Hero game, entitled "Guitar Hero: World Tour", last year.
