Reset Episode 13: Kickin' Off 2006 with a Bomb

The Reset crew talks with the authors of Smart Bomb, chats with Cliffy B, and rides the new wave of Tamagotchi craziness.

Synopsis

Happy new year from everyone at Reset! The crew starts 2006 off with a bomb instead of a bang -- a Smart Bomb to be precise. Zoe and Raymond went to New York to interview the authors of this excellent book on the video-game industry. Next up, Raymond chats with his good buddy from Epic Games: the infamous Cliffy B. To close things out, Ruby gets the scoop on Bandai's adorable Tamagotchi game for the Nintendo DS.

Part One: Smart Bomb's Away!

Smart Bomb is one of the most interesting books on the video-game business. Profiling some of the biggest names in gaming and showing how these people made an impact on the business, the book is part biography, part history, and part expose. Zoe and Raymond interview the authors, Heather Chaplin and Aaron Ruby, and learn what it was like to make the book, how the project got started, and some of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans that occurred during the writing process.

Part Two: Conversations with Cliffy B

Reset viewers are in for a special treat with the show's first interview with the dynamic, opinionated, hilarious, stylish, and above all, talented Cliffy B. One of the creative forces at Epic Games, Cliffy is also one of the industry's most dazzling personalities. He's also pals with Raymond, and someone made the questionable decision of giving the two microphones. The two talk about Cliffy's upcoming game Gears of War, but also delve into ninja restaurants, sumo wrestling at Madison Square Garden, that time Raymond allegedly hit Cliff at GDC, and traveling all the way to Tokyo just to eat McDonalds.

Part Three: Tamagotcha!

The Tamagotchi craze is going to run wild in 2006. Part of the new wave of Tamagotchi craziness is the upcoming game for the Nintendo DS. Developed by the company behind Parappa the Rapper and Vib Ribbon, this title combines an adorably original art style with the unique properties of the Nintendo DS.
