October means more than baseball fever, political debates and kids with cavities -- it's also Breast Cancer Awareness month, a fact that hasn't been lost on mega-publisher Electronic Arts.
Football is typically associated with the colors black and blue, but EA will try to expand the spectrum with the release of Madden NFL 09 Pink. Available exclusively at Target, it contains exactly the same content as the standard version, but half of the Pink version's proceeds are donated directly to the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation breast cancer charity.
"EA is honoured to team up with Deanna Favre and Target in the fight against breast cancer," said senior product manager, Anthony Stevenson. "Almost everyone has been affected by this disease in some way, so we're eager to give our passionate fans an opportunity to participate in finding a cure."
EA's not the only publisher willing to donate some cash to fight cancer. If you're more Nintendo than Niner, look into the company's limited edition Pink Ribbon DS Lite. For every handheld sold, Nintendo will give $5 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, which funds breast cancer research.
