Even though her movies have inspired a clutch of planned 2009 video games, don't expect to see Sigourney Weaver on your Xbox any time soon.
Approached by MTV about her current projects, Weaver confirmed she'd been approached about an Aliens title, but she wasn't impressed with the pitch. "They wanted me to do Ripley and I said, 'Well, you have Ripley killing aliens but also sick people and other marines!' And every other word out of my mouth was a curse word. I'm not a nun or anything, but I said, 'This is not true to the character.'," she told MTV.
Noted environmentalist Weaver also didn't like the look of another game from the same company. "There was one called 'Rednecks' where they shoot animals. The whole thing was so ridiculous," she said.
Which company was she referring to? Uh, we don't know. Sega is the only company that's currently known to be planning to release Aliens games (two of 'em, expected on console platforms next year), but a spokesperson denied the company had approached Weaver.
What about the action game based on the Ghostbusters movie, due to release in June 2009, which will feature voice work from many of the original movie's stars, including Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray? According to MTV, Weaver - who played Dana Barrett in the 1984 movie -- would be part of a Ghostbusters game if it was "high quality," but don't hold your breath. "I don't think they even asked me to be a part of the [new] 'Ghostbusters' one. If they did I don't remember it and maybe I was just busy."
Sorry, Weaver fans: if you're hoping to see your favorite gun-toting heroine in a video game, you're just going to have to hope she has a change of heart.
