Best New Games This Week

Take a deep breath. Summer's getting started, and it's a busy week. Appropriately for blockbuster season, movie-licensed titles dominate the new releases - and contrary to what you might expect from licensed games, these ones actually look pretty good. First up, though, is one of the biggest heroes in cinematic history, who's starring in a game that might just live up to his reputation.

Top Three:

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Is there anyone who doesn't like Indiana Jones? Even if you hated the new movie - and we know you're out there - that's no reason to pass on this block-shaped delight, because it's based on the first three rather than the more recent revisit. After the LEGO Star Wars games proved superb beyond our expectations, and proved a colossal success in the charts, we're expecting this one to follow suit. It's out on just about every platform this week.

Ninja Gaiden II

If you're in the mood for a challenge, you're going to love Ninja Gaiden II. Although it, like the other Gaiden games, is breathtakingly difficult, once the combat system clicks it's one of the most satisfying games there is. Check out IGN's 4-and-a-half star review for their detailed opinion, but suffice it to say that they love it, and so do we.

Dairy Dash

Saturated fats be damned -- Diner Dash is headed for the homestead in this time-management hit. Put Hank Williams, Jr. on the radio, put on your straw hat, and sink yourself into the comings and goings of a thriving farm. Raise cows, sheep, goats and chickens, and keep your vegetable patches green and growing, and you'll be an agricultural ace in no time.

Best of the Rest

  • The Incredible Hulk:
Mean, green, and if it's anything like the last Hulk game, rather good fun to boot.
  • Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet:
Merely a misplaced plural away from being a Jack the Ripper sim, Death in Scarlet is a killer San Francisco-based hidden-object game.
  • CLUE Classic:
A classic indeed, the legendary board game is now on your PC.
  • The Bourne Conspiracy:
The only conspiracy here is, how did it take so long for these outstanding movies to make it to the game world?
  • Dracula: Origin:
Get your teeth (sorry) into this tale of vampiric horror.
  • Race Driver: GRID:
Driving game aficionados will find this simmy racer well worth taking for a test drive.
  • Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2:
The Hot Shots series has deep gameplay that belies its cartoony appearance. In fact, you could say that it's well above par.
  • Lost Treasures of Alexandria:
They'll be called "Found Treasures of Alexandria" by the time you're done with this match-three smash.
