As we count the days until the long weekend that marks the unofficial beginning of summer, it's no surprise to find this week crammed with more treats than the most amply provisioned grill party on the block. It promises to be a busy three-day weekend for gamers of all stripes, whether you're a super-lithe fitness freak or a daylight-fearing, basement-dwelling online RPG fan (we kid, we kid). Check out our pick of the week's plentiful release selection.
Packing a custom-built "Balance Board" controller to measure your weight, Wii Fit's excellent gameplay is explored in our review, and it's a great way to encourage yourself to get off the couch and break a sweat. Your only problem is a familiar one to Wii owners: actually buying the damn thing. Most online retailers stopped pre-orders weeks ago owing to huge demand, so it's likely you're going to have your work cut out tracking down a store with any in stock. Still, you managed to find a Wii, so you're obviously already familiar with that process - and you can think of all that legwork trekking from mall to mall as a warm-up for Fit's fitness program.
Bored with Warcraft? Fed up with Runescape? Give Age of Conan a whirl. Although it's based on the 1930s stories that inspired the classic Arnie movie rather than the movie itself, this brand-new massively-multiplayer online role-playing game promises to be quite a hit. Its biggest selling point is its action-packed combat system - it's a world of difference from the usual press-button-and-wait fights of most online games. Plus you can ride a rhino. How many of this week's other new releases will let you ride rhinos?
PlayStation 3-exclusive shooter Haze hits this week, accompanied by a new Korn song of the same name. It's from British developer Free Radical Design, the group of Rare alums that also developed the Timesplitters first-person shooter series, so it's blessed with impeccable credentials. In the video game world, though, you're only as good as your last game, and if the first wave of Haze reviews are anything to go by, Free Radical struck out on this one. Take a long, hard look before you open your wallet.
