Batman: Arkham Asylum

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC
Release Date: August 25
The Joker has taken over Arkham, and guess who has to handle it? Battle lunatics as the Caped Crusader in what is shaping up to be the dark superhero's definitive game.
Why It's Hot:
Dude, it's Batman. Like, real Batman. Based on the long-running comic book rather than any particular film adaptation, Arkham Asylum bleeds authenticity. The story was co-written by the man behind the lauded animated series (Paul Dini), while Mark Hamil, who earned great acclaim for his role as the Joker, will voice him here, too. And rather than just punch and kick hordes of bad guys, you'll have to utilize the full extent of Batman's hi-tech gadgetry to take down the Joker.
Why It's Not:
We've been down this road before, haven't we? Other than the solid Lego Batman, games based on the Dark Knight are notorious for letting gamers down. While Arkham Asylum is looking like the first great Batman game in ages, it pays to be cautious.
Did You Know?
The game's CSI-like Investigative mode shows off the brawling Bat's smarter side. Players will be able to track enemies by pheromone scent, pick up their fingerprints, and even see through their lies with an x-ray vision visor. Beat that, Mr. Bale.
