GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, DS/DSi, PSP, PS2
Release Date: August 4
Based on the upcoming film, this straightforward shooter lets you control members of both Joe and Cobra as you co-operatively blast through hordes of enemies.
Why It's Hot:
The game actually begins when the movie ends rather than just forcing you to play through the film's events, which is a great idea. Plus, big kids like us spent our formative years forced to make do with plastic GI Joe action figures. Getting to move them around onscreen in a legitimate, big-budget game is an awesome premise. As this is the first Joe video game in twenty years, we know we'll play it.
Why It's Not:
Although knowing, of course, is only half the battle. The other half is that that game is really great, but early looks haven't been entirely promising. Will this shooter be cool like Contra, or cruel like Cobra?
Did You Know?
Snake Eyes, Duke and Cobra Commander are cool, but how about comedian Bob Hope, moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, patriotic wrestler Sgt. Slaughter and flabby footballer William "The Refrigerator" Perry? Though they're not in the new game, these celebs are among about three dozen real-life 'heroes' lucky enough to get turned into G.I. Joe dolls. Go (action) figure.
