School might be out for summer, but get ready to cheer on your alma mater in the latest version of EA's excellent college football series. Hundreds of new animations and countless new features on both sides of the ball vault it to the head of its class.

Why It's Hot:

It's the only game in town. Literally. With no competing college football games on the market, here's your chance to root, root, root for the home team. Lucky for you, the developers of this series never stop tinkering, as the new version contains more upgrades than a season of Nip/Tuck, including cool additions like Custom Team creation, Season Showdown mode, and lovely sideline reporter Erin Andrews.

Why It's Not:

We sort of lied when we said it was the only game in town, because technically, Madden is a football game, too. And while NCAA annually gives it the old college try, it typically feels a year or so behind that other gridiron great.

Did You Know?

Not only is EA's college football series the only college football game out there right now, it's been that way for close to a decade. The last console contender? 2K Sports' NCAA College Football 2K3, which was released in 2002.
