The verdict's in: Tiger Woods 10 is a winner, especially on the Wii with its MotionPlus add-on.
IGN's Matt Casamassina leads the pack, saying of the Wii version "You will not find a better game of golf on any system, period," and rating it an excellent 9.0/10. Not only that, it's "the definitive golf game...filled to the top with content, sports spectacular controls enhanced by MotionPlus, and includes great Disc Golf and online modes. Seriously, this is an amazing package made all the better by the peripheral pack-in."
1UP is equally impressed with Tiger's use of the new addon. "The MotionPlus device itself works every bit as intended, meaning it provides very sensitive movement from the Wii Remote," says 1UP's Mike Nelson, who gave it an A- grade, while cautioning new players that they'll need to work on their swing. "For the first few hours of playing the game, I was slicing shots, hitting bunkers, and watching balls plop into the water. There was an adjustment period before I got used to the new controls."
All the same, he's impressed, saying "It's casual friendly for anyone to play, but with enough difficulty options for the hardcore to stay interested. It's almost hard to imagine it getting better than this for the foreseeable future."
Over on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the critics aren't dragging out quite the same level of superlatives, but they're nevertheless impressed. TeamXbox called the 360 version "a super-solid golf game worthy of having the greatest player of all time on its box cover," and called out the game's new precision putting system for its realism. "If you find...the Precision Putting too demanding, you can wuss out and return to Tiger Woods 09 putting, although the new system is clearly superior for those searching for more tour authenticity," they said, doling out a 9/10 grade.
IGN went a little lower, awarding a still-respectable 8.3/10. Reviewer Nate Ahearn enjoyed the Play the Pros mode, which updates scores on the game's leaderboards with data from real-life competitions. "If Phil "Lefty" Mickelson drains a put on 16 to pull one-ahead of you on the leaderboard, you'll see that reflected in-game," Ahearn said, and particularly recommended it to golf fans. "If you’re someone who watches every second of every major tourney then you’ll enjoy the inclusion of the US Open and USGA Championship, you’ll dig the Live Tournaments, and you’ll appreciate the new putting."
