It doesn't take spy glasses to see the similarity here, although much of that was by design. Russell earned enduring geek cred with his turn as mercenary Snake Pliskin in "Escape from New York," a role that greatly influenced both the visual look and the name of the long-running "Metal Gear" protagonist.
