Simply strumming through a few tunes doesn't make you rock royalty. To ascend the mighty slope of rock Valhalla, you better learn the numbers game. Here are a few pointers:
Multiplication Rock
Like Guitar Hero, nailing notes in succession will increase your score multiplier up to 4X (6X for bass.) Each player will also be able to engage Rock Band's 'Overdrive' meter (think 'star power' without the stars) to double their individual multiplier. But to take it to the mountaintop, save your energy and go into Overdrive together as a band! Doing so gives your whole group a multiplier, which, when multiplied with the individual multipliers, equals some insane multiple...oh, it just kicks ass and makes you score a ton. Rock isn't about math, you know.
Sweet Solo, Dude
Most songs have a solo section - you'll know you're at it when a large percentage indicator pops up to gauge how well you're playing the solo. Really focus here, because you get a nice bonus for playing it clean.
And In The End...
You've rocked the verses, killed the choruses and shredded the solos. All that's left is the big finish, and in a handful of Rock Band's songs, that's a serious proposition. If you hit the finish line and can still wail away, you're working on a Big Rock Ending. Bang away at the drums, go tap crazy on the guitar or scream your lungs out - the more notes you hit, the higher the score. Just remember to nail the final notes to make the points count, or all that showmanship will be for naught.
