Week Of 3/9/09
By Mike Smith
Appropriately, Mario headlines this awesome week for Wii gamers: if you've been hunting for something new to do with your Wii, you'll find plenty of great choices amid the week's new releases. Xbox and Playstation fans aren't left out in the cold, either: the newest instalment in the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil series drops later this week. And that's not all: here's our picks.
Top Four
New Play Control Mario Power Tennis
Originally a smash hit (groan) on the Gamecube, this addictive, user-friendly tennis game is sure to turn out an ace (groan, redux) on the Wii. If you're looking for something with a little more depth than Wii Sports Tennis, it'll be just what you need: like Wii Sports, you swing the Wii remote to take your swings, but unlike Wii Sports, it's a fully fleshed-out game that's well worth the $30 asking price. Oh, and did we mention it stars Mario himself, to boot?
Trivial Pursuit
Time-honored trivia game Trivial Pursuit hits multiple consoles this week, so if you're in a mood to have your brain thoroughly teased, pick it up. Not only does it feature a polished and smooth rendition of the board game, it's also blessed with a "Facts & Friends" mode that challenges you to guess whether or not your friends will be able to answer a question correctly.
Resident Evil 5
Classic survival horror series Resident Evil also returns this week, and although it doesn't feature the zombies that arguably made its name, it's still packed with tense thrills and spills that'll keep you on the edge of your seat (or, if you're as scaredy as us, behind your seat crying into a cushion). Resident Evil 5 has an all-new African setting, and if you believe the hype, it's already a best-seller thanks to plenty of pre-orders. Look for it on Friday.
Natalie Brooks: Treasures Of The Lost Kingdom
Everyone's second favorite female teenage sleuth is back in the new installment of the Natalie Brooks series. Her new adventure is nearly twice as long as prior games, and rolls traditional point-and-click adventure game elements into the mix for a deeper experience. Can you rescue Natalie's grandfather and uncover the secrets of the Lost Kingdom?
