Harry Potter and the Half-Baked Game?
Are you jonesing to see the new Harry Potter movie next week? Have fun, but you might want to pass on the video game. Although the game based on the last Potter movie, Order of the Phoenix, won its share of praise from reviewers and the public, the just-released Half-Blood Prince isn't doing nearly as well.
Although the game recreates an impressive chunk of Harry's school, features the likenesses of the movie's big stars, and has reportedly been sitting in a state of completion ever since the movie's unexpected delay last year, it's attracting decidedly mixed reviews. Among the litany of complaints: mindless minigames, a voice cast that sounds little like the real thing, a plot that takes preposterous liberties with the book's story, a single-player mode that lasts a meager five or six hours, and a badly written script.
Still, a couple of outlets are sufficiently pleased to roll out moderately high grades. GameDaily tops the field, awarding it an 8/10 and calling it "a true Hogwarts experience. Having spent a few hours with the Wii version, I've got to say my feelings are more in line with those who are disappointed with the game's recreation of Potter's world.
