Former mail handler admits stealing thousands of rental video games

Live in Philadelphia? Rent games from Gamefly? Ever feel like they seemed to get "lost in the mail" a little too often? As they say on TV, mystery solved.

Reginald Johnson, a 34-year-old resident of Germantown, PA., admitted yesterday to stealing 2,200 Gamefly video games that were on their way to Philadelphia residents, during a federal district court hearing. While working as a mail handler in a Philly processing center during 2007 and 2008, Johnson was able to help himself to the games -- valued at over $80,000 -- as he unloaded tractor-trailers full of incoming mail, says the Philadelphia Daily News.

Aggrieved Gamefly customers began reporting the disappearances in late 2007, and USPS's Office of Inspector General began investigating. Johnson was busted after a sting operation involving surveillance and fake mailings -- and was caught with 160 Gamefly games in his possession, together with receipts that indicated he may have been trading in his haul at Gamestop.

Word to the wise, Johnson: Gamestop's one of the worst deals out there for used games. Next time, try Blockbuster or Amazon...once you get done with the 12-18 month stretch you're facing. Somehow, we doubt Gamefly delivers to Sing Sing.
