The world's largest video game publisher chose Times Square as its venue for the launch of one of the year's biggest releases, Madden NFL 08. Electronic Arts hosted an array of activities on Monday night, marking the worldwide launch of its mega football franchise.

Consumers lined up outside Toys R Us since the early morning hours to be among the first gamers to play this year's latest edition. The entertainment on offer included appearances by star athletes, a live Ozzy Osbourne concert (the renowned artist is a featured musician in the game), and watching the world's best Madden players duke it out in the game (the four players were the top-rated participants in the annual $100,000 Madden Challenge tournament).

Football superstars like Jamal Anderson, Eddie George, and Eric Dickerson were part of the fiesta on the island city. George and Dickerson went head-to-head on a giant big-screen in the middle of Broadway, real estate normally reserved for important newscasts or well-funded advertisements. Not that it was free for Electronic Arts -- we'd hate to see the bill for this amazing extravaganza.
